A preschooler's guide to Seattle Center's Winterfest.

December 03, 2008

We're just a few days into Seattle Center's annual Winterfest, so there is still so much to see and do. I've pulled together all the best activities and must-see sites of the festival - perfect for tons of family fun, whether is be for an hour or the whole day! Most activities are free or low cost, so be sure to put this on your December must-do list.

Everyday at Winterfest you can enjoy many fun activities. Explore poetry, ceramics, photographs and paintings provided by Nature Consortiumâ??s Youth Art Program participants, ages 5 to 19, as you stroll through Winter Tales and then take your turn driving the Winter Train through the Winter Village (it's a miniature 19th century village).

For a mere $1, you can enjoy a ride on the Classic Carousel on one of it's brightly colored horse. If you are feeling daring, head over to the Starbucks sponsored Ice Rink and take a spin on the ice. (Starbucks Free Skate Mondays are provided 12/8, 12/15, 12/22 and 12/29!)

After dark, be sure to stroll through the Village Campus Luminata; a perfect way to cap your Seattle Center Winterfest off - the lights are truly mesmerizing.

Want more Winterfest? In addition to the everyday activities, there are many special events intertwined through the festival, including cultural performances, community choirs, and other performances. The Student Showcase highlights the best in youth performances the Puget Sound has to offer and would this is a great opportunity to experience it with your preschooler. And if you are looking for a chartitable component of your Winterfest experience, you can visit the SHaring Gift Box and fullfill a wish today.
