One, Two, Three...Count With Me!

February 03, 2009

Counting to ten seems to be on the "Top Ten" (pun intended) list of "Skills for your child to develop" list. With my first child, I can distinctly remember being in the car with him and making a game of counting. It was so adorable to hear him repeat the numbers back to me; all in his own little accent.

My three-and-a-half year old, while mastering MOST numbers, still gets a bit confused when trying to recite from 1-20. She gets lost around 14, then often skips to 19. We're working on it, and it's STILL ADORABLE.

I imagine you, too, are deep in the throws of counting, counting, COUNTING! But? Where to count in Seattle? Here's some ideas.

Count planes landing at Sea-Tac Airport. (Here's a link to find a viewing spot.)

Count coffee shops (yes, I'm serious). My son quickly learned mama likes her Starbucks. He STILL points out the signs whenever we pass them. And in Seattle - there's plenty to be counted!

Count boats off a pier in Downtown Seattle.

Count monkeys at Woodland Park Zoo . (And I'm talking about REAL monkeys, not your little preschool monkeys!)

Count books on your book shelf. (Good counting books to check out from the library include my favorites Chick Chick 1, 2, 3 and Counting Kisses.
