Fun for the Littlest Ones
Looking Ahead, Weekend Style.
August 13, 2009
The cooler weather this week has been a welcome change for my family. I had to go digging into my kids' closets to find pants for them to wear; only to realize that they were almost too short. I see some school clothes shopping in my future.
But until then, we have a few more weeks and weekends of summer to enjoy. Here are some options for you, too.
Start the weekend off right, by listening to Music in the Park at Bothell Landing. The concert starts at at 7:00 pm and this week features Alex Duncan Reggae Band.
Run to Mercer Island for Island Jam. It includes a Summer Carnival that will include face painting, slides, bouncers, games and more! Friday, from noon to 4:00 pm.
Hungry? Head to Edmonds for their 37the Annual Taste of Edmonds. It will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in downtown Edmonds. Enjoy music, kids' activities, and, of course, plenty of food!
On Sunday, bring your picnic basket and blanket to enjoy Edmonds' Concert in the Park featuring Portage Bay Big Band. Located at Edmonds City Park (3rd and Pine), the concert starts at 3:00 pm.
Enjoy these last summer weekends; only a few left!

Holiday Weekend Ahead!
May 21, 2009
Memorial Day weekend is the often referred to as the unofficial start of summer - even though summer doesn't really start until June 21. It's a great time to getaway - whether that's visiting family, camping or another destination.
On the small chance that you'll be around this weekend (enjoying the beautiful weather!) here are some great activities to keep you busy.
Seattle is hosting the Northwest Folklife Festival; one of the nation's largest community arts festivals. Held at Seattle Center, there are lots of family activities available in the Folklife Commons, as well as specially programmed children's activities available on the Fisher Green Stage. The festival rund Friday through Sunday.
It might be time to take the family to Safeco Field to catch a Mariner's game. They're playing at home all weekend!
Those in the South Sound may choose to check out the 3rd annual Olympic Arts Festival which celebrates nature and wildlife fine art.
For the Monday holiday - it's good to know that not all local children's museums are closed on Monday (the Imagine Children's Museum in Everett is closed, for example). However, the Woodland Park Zoo is open and ready for you to view the new penguin exhibit. Be sure to call ahead before traveling to local destinations.

No worries, friends, Thursday's rain was just a minor blip on our screen as we look forward to the weekend. (Okay, okay, there's a small chance of rain on Friday, but I'll believe it when I see it.) Trade your preschooler's kazoo for a summer concert.

My husband recently returned from a business trip that caused him to be away from the house for an entire week He brought them kazoos . KAZOOS. As much as I like to support my children's interest in music; I've had to set some rules regarding the use of the kazoos. The two main rules are nokazooing while someone in the house is sleeping (mostly for my benefit) and no kazooing in the car Read more...
