Four Places You'll Want to Pick.

July 08, 2009

The summer is in full swing and in my mind, this means eating and serving as many fresh fruit as humanly possible.

Now, how to use all that fruit? My kids LOVE shortbread or angel food cake with fresh fruit and whipped cream. It's a great messy and tasty combination to enjoy while staying cool outside after a long summer day of activities. Of course, you're going to want to enjoy this BEFORE their bath!

Another fun adventure is to head out to one of our many local farms and pick your very own fruits and veggies. Here are the best spots to enjoy the harvest - as always, call ahead to make sure u-pick is available the day you prefer!

Bill Pace Fruit and Produce. Their selection is spectacular - and they're located close-in near Bellevue.

The Country Store and Gardens. On Vashon Island, they feature blueberries and a TON of perennials, trees and shrubs.

Harvold Farms. While they don't have a fancy website, the have some of the best prices in the area. They feature strawberries and raspberries.

South 47 Farm. Find everything you need here - you can definitely make a day of it with all the kid friendly activities, too.  Read more...

Bring on the Weekend; Bring on the Fun!

May 28, 2009

If this weather continues - we just may start expecting this! Here's some ideas - both indoors and outdoors - to keep you busy this weekend and into next week.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday head over to Edmonds for the Edmonds Rotary Waterfront Festival. They have an extensive schedule of children's events, with inflatables, duck races and music all weekend. Be sure to pack your sunscreen!

Pike Place Market is hosting their Pike Place Market Street Festival on Saturday and Sunday. They'll have plenty of food, music, and, of course, a KIDS ZONE!

Want to pick up from farm fresh foods this weekend? Saturday and Sunday, South 47 Farm welcomes you to their Fields of Green Farm Celebration. Who doesn't like wagon rides, live music, farm animals, food and your pick of fresh veggies and fruits? You may learn a little, too.

This past weekend marked the opening of the Jim Henson's Fantastic World exhibit at the Experience Music Project. It features more than 100 pieces of drawings, cartoons and storyboards that illustrate Henson’s talent as a storyteller and visionary. Who else could have brought us Big Bird and Kermit the Frog? And don't forget -EMP hosts Family Days each month with free or reduced admission prices.  Read more...

What Will You Be Doing This Weekend and Upcoming Week?

March 19, 2009

Starting when I was five, I played years and year and years AND YEARS of Little League. Well, thirteen years to be exact. I considered the experiences I had as some as my favorites from my youth. I waited years and years AND YEARS to have kids of my very own who could play Little League, too, and have just as much fun as I had.

That year has finally come.

My son is now in tee-ball and this weekend is the annual pancake breakfast and JAMBOREE. So, I know what WE will be doing this weekend - but what will you be up to?

It's Baby Loves Disco weekend! On Saturday head down to Heaven in Pioneer Square and boogie on down!

Do you have a rock lover in your house (and not the musical kind)? Then they may enjoy the Rock and Gem Show at the Lake City Community Center held this Saturday and Sunday. It's free!

And next week brings lots of fun activities as well.

This Monday is Ivar's Flounders Day, where you can enjoy a choice of entrees for $1.04 (with the purchase of any regular prices entree)! My kids love the clam strips. Lunch? CHECK.

On Tuesday you can enjoy Nancy Stewart at the Burien Public Library as she performs her Mother Goose on the Loose show. Be prepared to sing along!

Have a great week!  Read more...

December 12, 2008

I remember the Christmas seasons of my youth, where the remnants of Christmas Day gift openings would be strewn all over our family's living room: wrapping paper galore (in all shapes and sizes), boxes that had contained presents, cardboard and other discarded materials that held much-wanted toys and the wrappings from just-eaten candy and chocolates. Even though I grew-up in  Read more...

Welcome to your weekend.

November 13, 2008

The weekend planner is BACK! Apparently, we needed the break between Halloween and Thanksgiving, Christmas and all the other winter holidays. But, the magic is back this weekend, with activities from concert events to a toy swap. What fits your fancy? The strolling carolers of Emerald City Voices will be performing this weekend at Molbaks in Woodinville as part of their Winter Wonderland  Read more...

Green Seattle.

October 20, 2008

Being "green" is a movement across the nation, and perhaps even more among the mothers of young children. Well, why? Researchers have told us that because children (pound-for-pound) breath more air, drink more water, and eat more food than adults; they receive proportionally larger doses of environmental toxins than adults. Always growing, the chemicals that harm their physical and  Read more...

To the farmers market we go!

June 05, 2008

'Tis the season of fresh farmers markets in Puget Sound! While we have several that run year-round; the majority are a summer treat. Why visit and purchase from local farmers markets? Because food offered at these markets is usually fresher than anything your can find in the supermarket and that means it's tastier and more nutritious. Eating local means more for the local economy and less  Read more...
