Get your ice cream fix

June 16, 2009

There's this evil man who parks outside my son's elementary school every warm day. He's not evil in the typical sense. In fact, he seems like a pretty nice guy, overall. Except that his truck is stuffed full of ice cream treats that the kids beg for when we walk home.

Sometimes, I'm okay with this. I've instituted a "Sunny Friday" rule. On sunny Fridays, we can stop and buy a popsicle. Monday through Thursday, though, don't even bother asking.

With school letting out at the end of this week, we have to find a new way to get our frozen treat fix.

Here are five great places in Seattle to score something cold, sweet and creamy:

Coldstone Creamery : Scattered throughout Seattle, Bellevue, Lynnwood and Factoria, there's no excuse not to try this luscious ice cream in the coming summer months.

Gelatiamo: Opened in 1996 by a woman who grew up working in her family's bakery in Northern Italy, this place knows gelato and is located on Third Avenue downtown.

Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream in Wallingford and Capitol Hill has flavors such as salted caramel and birthday cake and shouldn't be missed.

Peaks Frozen Custard in the University District is a great introduction to the decadence that is the midwestern frozen custard craze.

The Scoop at Walter's has a small-town vibe in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Seattle and a rotating list of dreamy flavors.

Whatever venue you choose, from the coffee shop that also sells a few scoops to one of the above mentioned ice creamatorias, savor every delicious bite.

Seattle weekend plans? CHECK.

August 21, 2008

We're heading out for one last hurrah this weekend - over to Idaho to visit family - before school starts and my son enters kindergarten (!!!). It will just be the kids and me in the car for about six hours (ONE WAY), so if you're hanging around Seattle this weekend, you're definitely getting the better end of the deal. Anyone want to meet for lunch in Othello at the Burger King around  Read more...

Three Days In and Around Seattle: Day 3, the Southern Tour.

July 10, 2008

We're now at the third and final day of our "Three Days In and Around Seattle" series. We explored the best of urban Seattle on Tuesday, and yesterday we ventured west to the beaches and beauty of the Kitsap Peninsula . But for the third day on our tour, I'm going to let my personal opinions influence my recommendation (wait, isn't that what I'm here for?). As you may have read in my Savvy  Read more...
