What Will You Be Doing This Weekend and Upcoming Week?

March 19, 2009

Starting when I was five, I played years and year and years AND YEARS of Little League. Well, thirteen years to be exact. I considered the experiences I had as some as my favorites from my youth. I waited years and years AND YEARS to have kids of my very own who could play Little League, too, and have just as much fun as I had.

That year has finally come.

My son is now in tee-ball and this weekend is the annual pancake breakfast and JAMBOREE. So, I know what WE will be doing this weekend - but what will you be up to?

It's Baby Loves Disco weekend! On Saturday head down to Heaven in Pioneer Square and boogie on down!

Do you have a rock lover in your house (and not the musical kind)? Then they may enjoy the Rock and Gem Show at the Lake City Community Center held this Saturday and Sunday. It's free!

And next week brings lots of fun activities as well.

This Monday is Ivar's Flounders Day, where you can enjoy a choice of entrees for $1.04 (with the purchase of any regular prices entree)! My kids love the clam strips. Lunch? CHECK.

On Tuesday you can enjoy Nancy Stewart at the Burien Public Library as she performs her Mother Goose on the Loose show. Be prepared to sing along!

Have a great week!  Read more...

Getting Ready for St. Patrick's Day.

March 12, 2009

Green may be the color of the season, but did you know that green was not used for St. Patrick's Day until the mid-1700s? Before that time, St. Patrick's Blue was used. See? You can learn a little here, too, at Savvy Source.

What's so fun about St. Patrick's Day? Well, pretty much everything! You can run with the color green from dawn (green pancakes, anyone??) to dusk (green eggs and ham!!) and all hours in between (try lots of fun, festive, St. Patrick's Day crafts).

Looking for something to do out of the house?

All week Seattle Center hosts the Irish Week Festival; which will be full of fun ways to celebrate.

On St. Patrick's Day at Bellevue's Whole Food Market your kids can plant clover seeds in compostable pots - and rumor has it there will be green milk and cookies to snack on.

If you are in the mood to see some festive dancing, then head over to the Covington or Fairview Public Libraries, where you can enjoy Irish Dancing by Rowan Fae. See the King County Library System for more information.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Read more...

Concert review: Nancy Stewart's Hello House!

November 19, 2008

I took my own advice last weekend and packed the kids up and headed to the Woodinville Public Library to enjoy the musical musings of Nancy Stewart . Nancy was provided funding by the King County Library System and Puget Sound Energy Foundation to develop a program addressing home energy conservation and emergency preparedness for the toddler and  Read more...

Schools are back in session and so are indoor playgrounds.

September 08, 2008

There are some days when you pull EVERY SINGLE parenting trick out of your hat. Coloring. Play-doh. Puppets. Books. Cartwheels. But nothing holds their interest for long. And you've still got HOURS to fill before naptime. AGH. Your solution? Easy - hit the indoor playground nearest to you (or nearest to whatever is on your schedule!). "Just what is an indoor playground?" you ask. In  Read more...

Extra-curricular activities for the discerning preschooler.

June 17, 2008

Is your preschooler tiring of the basic after school activities like swimming or ballet? While my five year old is currently in the midst of a two-day a week love affair with taekwondo, I'm sure one day soon we'll be looking for other activities to feed his eagerness of action. Are you looking for some creative, unique options to broaden your children's perspective? We're lucky to live  Read more...

Things you must do with your children in Seattle before they grow up.

May 29, 2008

Since I grew up in Portland, I love that I am learning and exploring the Seattle area for the first time right along with my kids. There is always some attraction or activity to venture out to. In this series of posts, I'll be sharing my ideas on the 100 things to do in Seattle (and the greater Puget Sound region) with your children before they grow up in Seattle. Here are the first five  Read more...
